Lucas, Raabe and West in Energy Diaries

Free Franz West screening next Thursday

The ICA commemorates the life and work of the late Austrian sculptor with its screening of Energy Diaries

To commemorate the life and work of the Austrian sculptor Franz West, who passed away last month, the ICA is to host a free screening of Energy Dairies next Thursday at 7:30pm.

The film is of a 2010 conversation between West, British artist Sarah Lucas, and fellow Austrian Andreas Reiter Raabe. Footage was shot and manipulated by Lucas' boyfriend, artist Julian Simmons, and features 'frequent sonic disruptions' by Philipp Quehenberger, a Viennese electronic musician.

Lucas, Simmons and executive director of the ICA, Gregor Muir, will introduce the event. Muir in particular thinks the film does justice to West's work and is quoted as saying that Energy Diaries is "in the top five talks of all time - in fact it's number one ".

Come along next Thursday to see if you think he's right. Though there is no charge for tickets, booking is required. Click here for more details. Or, if you can't make the screening, consider our Franz West book, an indispensable guide to the work of this prolific artist.
