Architects bring new meaning to mansion on the hill

Fran Silvestre Arquitectos in Spain create an amazingly secluded house in Ayora, near Valencia

We like the way the angled roof of this wedge of a house built by Fran Silvestre Arquitectos on a mountainside in Ayora, Spain, juts out from the rock face behind it. The property, just outside Valencia, complements the slope of the surrounding ground, creating a pleasing triangular shape all around the three-storey building.

Views into the bedrooms on the second storey are protected from the street by large sliding panels and the top floor living room opens out onto a secluded courtyard with a view of the nearby castle.

The building is located in a landscape of unique beauty, the result of a natural and evident growth.he mountain, topped by a castle, is covered by a blanket housing through a system of aggregation by simple juxtaposition of pieces generated fragmented target tissue that adapts to the topography.

The architects, Fran Silvestre Arquitectos, say that the project is designed "to integrate into the environment and interact with its fragmentation. In this way the house is conceived as a piece placed on the same white lime of the ground."
