Massimo Bottura brings back the Skinny Chef

Like many of us, the world-famous chef, philanthropist and Phaidon author has a new fitness regime for 2019

Massimo Bottura may have called his first book, Never Trust a Skinny Italian Chef, but, as his friend, the artist Maurizio Cattelan tells the chef in the book’s Q&A, “you’re not that skinny!”

Certainly, Massimo has lived the good life since that book’s publication; his restaurant Osteria Francescana topped the World’s 50 Best Restaurants list twice, and he’s founded his worldwide charity, Food for Soul which has gone from strength to strength.

And Massimo with it by the looks of things. Massimo and his family stayed at the Lefay Resort beside Lake Garda in northern Italy, and it seems he took the opportunity to up his fitness regime. “New Year resolution,” he wrote beside this Instagram post (top), “Here I am the king of yoga, ah ah ah!”

Wife and business partner Lara Gilmore instagrammed a great photo of Massimo and son Charlie on the resort's exercise machines. Lara herself ventured out into the surrounding countryside on a Specialized Stump Jumper mountain bike. The Bottura clan are obviously working on a little self care after a hard, but successful, 2018.
