Take a look at Diane von Furstenberg’s Reading Recommendations for International Women’s Day

The designer, entrepreneur and Own It author has curated an International Women’s Day book list for Bookshop.org

The printed page is important to Diane von Furstenberg. The designer, entrepreneur and Phaidon author has always kept a diary; reading helped her get through her radiotherapy treatment for cancer; and this Monday, 8 March, she will mark International Women’s Day by publishing her latest book, Own It: The Secret to Life.

She’s also marking that auspicious day by sharing a selection of recommended books, via the online retailer, Bookshop.org in the UK and in the US.

The list includes Own it and two other Phaidon titles, None and Annie Leibovitz at Work, as well as classics such as To Kill a Mocking Bird by Harper Lee and The Second Sex by Simone de Beauvoir, alongside more recent finds, including Unfinished by Priyanka Chopra Jonas.

Old or new, they’re all important to the designer. “I have loved and devoured books ever since I can remember. Books are the essence of learning, experiencing, feeling,” writes our author. “This International Women’s Day, as we celebrate the publication of my new book, Own It: The Secret to Life. I am excited to share my recommended reading by women who each embody the spirit of OWN IT.

“To OWN IT is to accept the truth and deal with it, however unpleasant it may be,” she goes on. “It is accepting and standing for who we are. We own our imperfections, they become our assets; we own our vulnerability, it becomes our strength. Whatever the challenge is, own it. Owning it is the first step to everything.”
