Phaidon, Artspace, and The Broad are proud to announce DRFTRS (Daisy Ghost), 2025, a new limited-edition print by acclaimed Los Angeles-based artist Sterling Ruby.

Drawn from Ruby’s ongoing series, DRFTRS (Daisy Ghost) incorporates collage and lithography and exemplifies a painterly approach to printmaking. Layers of rich monochromatic hues intertwine with gestural lines to create a dynamic composition and surface details that allude to landscape, archeology, and cyanotype.

Ruby is renowned for a multidisciplinary practice spanning painting, sculpture, ceramics, textiles, collage, video, and installation. His sustained engagement with the complexities of contemporary life encompass themes of violence, confinement, societal pressures, and transformation through a rigorous focus on material and artistic process. His work compiles fragments of the everyday into reflections on cultural tension and the human condition.

This edition continues Ruby’s ongoing exploration of collage as a site of formal and conceptual experimentation - a process he has described as an illicit merger.

“When everything comes together in these collages it’s like an optical case of what’s real and what is not.” - Sterling Ruby

DRFTRS (Daisy Ghost) was co-commissioned by Phaidon and The Broad to mark the 30th anniversary of Phaidon’s Contemporary Artists Series - which features Ruby’s monograph - and the 10th anniversary of The Broad, where his work is part of the permanent collection. The edition will debut with a special public event at The Broad in Los Angeles on November 6.

Sterling Ruby (American/Dutch, b. 1972) was born on an American military base in Bitburg, Germany to a Dutch mother and American father. Raised in Pennsylvania, he received a BFA from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago and an MFA from ArtCenter College of Design in Pasadena. His unique perspective is deeply informed by the traditional arts and crafts with which he grew up, and Southern California’s urban-industrial landscape. Public collections include the Guggenheim Museum NY; the Whitney Museum of American Art NY; MoMA NY; The Broad, Los Angeles; and LACMA, Los Angeles; among others.

All our frames are manufactured in the USA, using eco-friendly and sustainably sourced engineered hardwood for durability and a uniform finish that is free of defects. Frames are available in Black or White Satin and Honey Pecan.

All prints are hinged to a conservation quality, acid-free and lignin-free Alpha Cellulose matboard, using an acid-free linen tape. The mat's surface paper is fade and bleed resistant and is attached to a conservation quality foam-core mounting board that will keep the work safe from deterioration over time. Artworks with a deckled or decorative edges will be floated on the matboard, with acrylic spacers to separate the art from the glazing. All mounting is fully reversible, without any potential damage to the art.

All of our frames come with picture quality .090 mm plexiglass, which blocks 66% of UV to prevent color fading from exposure to light, keeping your art protected for years to come. It is now considered the industry standard for artists, museums and galleries throughout the world.
