Evil Twin Brewing New York City's taps at the Nowadays tap room

Our Where to Drink Beer author has opened his NYC brewery!

You can taste Jeppe Jarnit-Bjergsø’s NYC brews at Nowadays Tap Room, Queens, from today, Friday

Until recently Evil Twin, Jeppe Jarnit-Bjergsø’s beer brand, was known in the trade as a ‘gypsy brewery’. These beer makers don’t have any dedicated manufacturing plant, and instead work with other breweries to produce one-off beers, often taking advantage of downtime at other, bigger producer’s plants.

However, this year, Jarnit-Bjergsø, who oversaw our Where to Drink Beer book, and co-authored Food & Beer, has finally put down some roots.  Over the past three years he and his Evil Twin colleagues have been working on Evil Twin Brewing New York City, a small local brewery, presenting exclusive one-off batches.

“We will be brewing a bunch of new beers under new recipes using ingredients and methods we haven't used before!” he explained, via Instagram. And it’s not just the trusted ways of beer brewing that Jarnit-Bjergsø rejected; he’s also shied away from external investment.

“It’s been a very long and tough process, building something at this scale with no investors,” he told us last year. “My wife and I are paying for the whole thing and in New York that’s tough!”

Thankfully, he’s made it, and from this Friday, Evil Twin Brewing NYC’s beers will be flowing at the Nowadays Tap Room, 56-06 Cooper Ave, near Wyckoff.

And if you prefer to take your brews home, Evil Twin are also offering canned beer sales directly from their new Brewery site, around the corner from Nowadays, on 1616 George St.

We’re sure the beer tastes great, but we’re also particularly taken with the can artwork. “The new design is inspired by the labels of some of the wine world's most interesting, experimenting and innovative wineries,” explains Evil Twin. “We will be using real photography showing snapshots from our city that we love so dearly - the everyday life, the good and the bad, the people, the food, the culture, the history and the future we're creating together in this crazy and inspiring city.”
