The Larder at Great Dixter by Andrew Montgomery

Our Instagram weekend break at Great Dixter

On Saturday and Sunday our Instagram account @phaidonsnaps took a weekend break at Great Dixter, the beautiful English country house and garden, courtesy of the English photographer Andrew Montgomery.

Montgomery shot the photographs for our new book The Great Dixter Cookbook, a seasonal recipe book and expert planting guides from the late, great horticulturalist Christopher Lloyd's quintessential English country garden, and, on Saturday and Sunday, he also took over our Instagram account.

Over at @phaidonsnaps, Montgomery shared a few glimpses and stories from behind the scenes of The Great Dixter Cookbook. Andrew posted images such as these pears in the Great Dixter larder (top) – “a space not much bigger than a broom cupboard, the contents of which I had to empty completely to fit in both camera, tripod and myself” – the gardener and book’s author and vegetable gardener Aaron Bertelsen’s notebook (below) – "taken in the potting shed, another dark place but with beautiful light and a very earthy aroma" – and this tray of pickled pears beside one of the house’s beautiful leaded windows (above) – “this window in particular is a favourite, the light is always soft.”
