The much anticipated and definitive publication on the limited-edition works by Italian artist and Arte Povera icon Michelangelo Pistoletto, created over the course of his remarkable 70-year career

Michelangelo Pistoletto is widely recognized as one of the most influential contemporary artists living today. One of the key artists associated with Arte Povera – the art movement theorized by Germano Celant in 1967 – Pistoletto is mostly known for his ‘Mirror Paintings,’ an ongoing series of pieces comprising figurative images applied to the surface of polished stainless steel, initiated in the late 1960s.

In 1994, Pistoletto established Cittadellarte, a cultural and educational hub where different creative disciplines such as art, music, dance, and drama collectively engage with the objective of transforming society.

Ideologically motivated by the notion that art should be accessible to a broader audience, in the late 1960s Pistoletto started working on limited editions of his work. Since then, he has produced about 130 multiples, collaborating with many different institutions across the globe.

Created in strict collaboration with the artist and his archive, this publication is the most comprehensive and authoritative presentation of Pistoletto’s limited-edition works. Michelangelo Pistoletto features nearly 300 images, along with an essay by Alberto Fiz, a poem by Paolo Repetto, and entries describing the context and genesis of each edition by Marco Farano.
