Your chance to own a Tom Sachs limited-edition bag

Tom Sachs is a relentlessly innovative and subversive artist known for works that both criticize and fetishize consumer culture.

Although he is perhaps best known for his bricolage sculptures, his practice is varied. He creates ceramics, paintings, and drawings; shoots films; makes zines: builds space programs, holds tea ceremonies, and designs furniture and sneakers. Sometimes before lunch.

Foam core, duct tape, plywood, and other humble materials replace the gleaming aluminum and plastics of mass-produced items, and the leather and other costly components of luxury items. His works are fabricated with a combination of industrial vigor and handmade artistry that intentionally reveal his process.

Now, in conjunction with Phaidon, he’s releasing a special limited-edition bag, accompanied by a signed copy of Tom Sachs Guide, our definitive exploration of his incredibly prolific creative practice. Only 20 editions are available to customers.

Shaped and sized to accommodate Tom Sachs Guide, the limited-edition bag is made from Dyneema, a non-woven composite fabric stronger than steel and extremely lightweight.

Sachs designed the bag for everyday use, with an easy-access back compartment for essentials and an olive drab nylon webbing strap connected with high-quality PVD plated solid brass swivel snaps. Additional details include handmade “T.SACHS” English porcelain bead zipper pulls.

Tom Sachs Guide documents four decades of art-making in a richly illustrated volume featuring more than 650 images, with revealing texts throughout. Co-authored by designer Yeju Choi and writer Howie Kahn, it presents in-depth views of projects from all periods of Sachs' career. It is itself an object direct from the hands of the artist. And now, if you’re quick, there is a chance to secure a signed copy inside a limited-edition bag, itself directly from the hands of the artist.

Sachs is represented by Acquavella in New York; Thaddaeus Ropac in Paris; and Tomio Koyama in Tokyo, among others. His work is included in museums globally, including Centre Pompidou, Paris; Fondazione Prada, Milan; The Museum of Modern Art, New York; and more. He has reimagined and collaborated with Hello Kitty, Prada, McDonald’s, Chanel, Levi’s, Leatherman, and NASA has a longstanding collaboration with Nike called ‘NikeCraft’.
