This work by Jeremy Kost is a Polaroid collage of drag queens dressed up for a night on the town in low, soft light. Juxtaposed against one another, the images seem to join together to form a crowd that has bonded together over a long night of revelry.

The drag queens depicted in these photographs, with their blond wigs, tattoos, and Lady Gaga leotards, are clearly the belles of the ball. Set against the pink, natural glow of the early morning light, the figures take on additional feminine qualities, making them appear like fairies emerging from the dawn. In the Polaroid at the far right, which is tilted offline from the other two images, a blue-haired figure is separated from the rest of the crowd, suggesting isolation and even vulnerability.

Jeremy Kost is a tireless chronicler of gender, sexuality, and nightlife, and has pioneered virtuosic ways to present Polaroid snapshots. Drawing his inspiration from the celebrity nightlife scene, Kost uses his instant film camera to capture the glamour—and the inherent striving—of a downtown scene full of fashion insiders, chic club kids, and flamboyant drag queens, with an eye attuned to uneven luminosity and raw beauty. A self-described "fat kid from Texas," the star transformed his image while living in Washington, DC, from 1999—2003, where he instituted a rigorous workout routine, in part motivated by his fascination with the beautiful bodies of the gay nightclub scene. On subsequent trips to New York, he slowly ingratiated himself with a well-connected, exclusive crowd who allowed him to photograph them intimately, but without pretense. The resulting images, frequently displayed in grids or collages, are reminiscent of works by Nan Goldin and Mark Morrisroe, but they most closely resemble the photographs taken by Andy Warhol in the 1970s.

All our frames are manufactured in the USA, using eco-friendly and sustainably sourced engineered hardwood for durability and a uniform finish that is free of defects. Frames are available in Black or White Satin and Honey Pecan.

All prints are hinged to a conservation quality, acid-free and lignin-free Alpha Cellulose matboard, using an acid-free linen tape. The mat's surface paper is fade and bleed resistant and is attached to a conservation quality foam-core mounting board that will keep the work safe from deterioration over time. Artworks with a deckled or decorative edges will be floated on the matboard, with acrylic spacers to separate the art from the glazing. All mounting is fully reversible, without any potential damage to the art.

All of our frames come with picture quality .090 mm plexiglass, which blocks 66% of UV to prevent color fading from exposure to light, keeping your art protected for years to come. It is now considered the industry standard for artists, museums and galleries throughout the world.
