Artspace in partnership with Artadia is pleased to announce the release of Watering Weeds , a new series of unique limited edition prints by Summer Wheat created in celebration of Artadia’s 25th anniversary.

Based on an original large-scale painting of the same name, the Watering Weeds edition consists of 30 unique hand-embellished prints that reflect the artist’s practice of pushing the boundaries of materiality and abstraction.

Wheat is known for her dynamic, large-scale works that combine the human figure, abstraction, and references to both contemporary culture and art history. Her vibrant, tactile works often draw inspiration from the human body, exploring themes of cultivation, empowerment, and the intersection of the spiritual and the mundane.

“The woman’s role as a fountain in Watering Weeds shows her role in nature as the water source for the garden. The garden grows as it is watered, and both the figure and her setting are responding to each other. We constantly need to be cultivated, nurtured, manicured, fed. It’s coming from this idea of taking care of oneself within this garden or one’s personal sphere and harvesting what you’re sowing.”  —Summer Wheat

Wheat has exhibited widely at museums and galleries internationally. She has been the subject of recent exhibitions at the Museum of Contemporary Art Denver; the Brooklyn Museum, and the Aspen Art Museum. Wheat’s work is represented in the permanent collections of the Whitney Museum of American Art, the Hammer Museum, and the Pérez Art Museum Miami, among others. Her work has been featured in publications such as The New York Times , Artforum , and Vogue .

Todd Eberle is an acclaimed New York City-based photographer whose work is united by a clean and analytical minimalist aesthetic. Eberle's subjects run the gamut from political, art, and cultural figures to architectural landmarks and technology. He has worked as photographer-at-large at Vanity Fair since 1998 and has had solo exhibitions at the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art, the Art Institute of Chicago, WPS1/MoMA/The Clocktower, and Tate Modern.

Eberle gained international recognition for his photographs of Donald Judd's art and furniture that he took at the great sculptor's Chinati Foundation in Marfa, Texas, and elsewhere around the world in the 1990s. Informed by this experience, Eberle's photographs are characterized by an ever-present sense of control, proportion, and symmetry. His celebrity portraits are notable for their witty eye for design, and his architectural photographs have been praised by the curator Joseph P. Rosa for "proposing fresh ways of seeing, thinking about, and interpreting architecture" and for transforming "the figurative into the abstract." In almost every photo, rich colors—almost too vibrant to believe—grip the viewer's attention.

In his recently published monograph Empire of Space (Rizzoli, 2011), Eberle pairs disparate photographs from throughout his 30-year career to create thought-provoking juxtapositions. Dave Hickey, the eminent art critic, writes in his accompanying essay: "There is always a heartless little sting in these images, a frisson of worldly dissonance, like Degas in a newspaper."

All our frames are manufactured in the USA, using eco-friendly and sustainably sourced engineered hardwood for durability and a uniform finish that is free of defects. Frames are available in Black or White Satin and Honey Pecan.

All prints are hinged to a conservation quality, acid-free and lignin-free Alpha Cellulose matboard, using an acid-free linen tape. The mat's surface paper is fade and bleed resistant and is attached to a conservation quality foam-core mounting board that will keep the work safe from deterioration over time. Artworks with a deckled or decorative edges will be floated on the matboard, with acrylic spacers to separate the art from the glazing. All mounting is fully reversible, without any potential damage to the art.

All of our frames come with picture quality .090 mm plexiglass, which blocks 66% of UV to prevent color fading from exposure to light, keeping your art protected for years to come. It is now considered the industry standard for artists, museums and galleries throughout the world.
