Artspace is proud to announce Her-Vimana, a beautiful new 8-color lithograph with Chine-collé by internationally acclaimed artist Shahzia Sikander.

Produced in a limited edition of 40, each print is accompanied by a copy of Shahzia Sikander: Collective Behavior, the definitive and richly illustrated monograph on the artist, published by Monacelli. This limited edition print and comprehensive volume coincide with Sikander’s solo exhibitions at the Cincinnati Art Museum and the Cleveland Museum of Art, both opening on February 14th. This release closely follows the premiere of the artist’s major survey exhibition, Collective Behavior, at La Biennale di Venezia in 2024.

Her-Vimana exemplifies Sikander’s mastery of layered storytelling and vibrant imagery. The work bursts with energy in a fusion of bold hues of red, yellow, blue, and earthy tones. The intricate details and flowing forms evoke themes of transformation, movement, and resilience, all of which are central elements of Sikander’s visual language.

A pioneer in reinterpreting South Asian material histories through a feminist lens, Sikander has been a transformative voice in contemporary art for decades. Her multi-media practice consistently challenges Eurocentric art histories and spans painting, sculpture, and large-scale public works including Havah...to breathe, air, life, recently installed in Madison Square Park, New York.

Proceeds from the sale of Her-Vimana will support the Cincinnati Art Museum and the Cleveland Museum of Art.

Shahzia Sikander is widely celebrated for subverting Central and South Asian miniature painting histories in her contemporary art practice. Engaging ideas of language, trade, empire, and migration through feminist perspectives, Sikander’s paintings, video animations, mosaics and sculpture explore gender and body politics, racial narratives, and colonial histories. Sikander is a recipient of the Pollack Prize for Creativity, Pollock-Krasner Foundation (2023) and the MacArthur Foundation Fellowship ‘Genius’ Award (2015), among many others. A survey exhibition, Shahzia Sikander: Collective Behavior, premiered as a Collateral Event of the 60th International Art Exhibition - La Biennale di Venezia, co-organized by the Cincinnati Art Museum and the Cleveland Museum of Art. The exhibition was on view until October 20th, 2024 in Venice. Complementary iterations will be presented in parallel at both Ohio institutions from February 14, 2025.

All our frames are manufactured in the USA, using eco-friendly and sustainably sourced engineered hardwood for durability and a uniform finish that is free of defects. Frames are available in Black or White Satin and Honey Pecan.

All prints are hinged to a conservation quality, acid-free and lignin-free Alpha Cellulose matboard, using an acid-free linen tape. The mat's surface paper is fade and bleed resistant and is attached to a conservation quality foam-core mounting board that will keep the work safe from deterioration over time. Artworks with a deckled or decorative edges will be floated on the matboard, with acrylic spacers to separate the art from the glazing. All mounting is fully reversible, without any potential damage to the art.

All of our frames come with picture quality .090 mm plexiglass, which blocks 66% of UV to prevent color fading from exposure to light, keeping your art protected for years to come. It is now considered the industry standard for artists, museums and galleries throughout the world.
