Hans Ulrich Obrist is Co-Director of Exhibitions and Programmes and Director of International Projects at the Serpentine Gallery, London. He has played a pivotal role in major international exhibitions and biennials, including Manifesta 1 (Rotterdam, 1996), the 50th Venice Biennale (2003) and the 3rd Yokohama Triennale (2008). His numerous books include Hans Ulrich Obrist Interviews, Vol. 1 (2003) and do it (2005), as well as a series of book-length interviews with artists and architects (including Olafur Eliasson, Wolfgang Tillmans and Zaha Hadid), which he began in 2007.

Karen Smith is a curator and critic who has been based in Beijing since 1992. Author of Nine Lives: The Birth of Avant-Garde in New China (2006), she has curated numerous exhibitions of Chinese art, including ‘The Chinese’ at Kunstmuseum Wolfsberg, Germany (2004), ‘The Real Thing’ at Tate Liverpool (2007) and ‘Subtlety’ at Platform China, Beijing (2008).

Bernard Fibicher is director of Musée Cantonal des Beaux-Arts de Lausanne. Formerly Director of Kunsthalle Bern and Curator at Kunstmuseum Bern, his exhibitions include ‘Six Feet Under: Autopsy of our Relationship to the Dead’ (2007), ‘Mahjong: Chinese Contemporary Art from the Sigg Collection’ (2005), and ‘Ai Weiwei’ (2004).
