Ross Lovegrove's Eye Digital Camera

A camera more like a prosthetic than a product, says the designer

The concept study of an elastomeric digital camera, proposed to the Olympus Optical Company in Japan, was the result of my manipulation of elastomeric materials and their use in biomorphic body-form structures for consumer products.

This proposal was intended to stimulate a radical new generation of products that would be non-precious, non–mechanical, soft and sensual – more akin to prosthetics than traditional products. As an extension of the body, the way in which a camera is used would become more bio-anatomical, tapping into a sense of self-containment and the nomadic.
