"Nest was one of the most joyous celebrations of singular design aesthetics ever seen. Free from pretension, and with photography by fine artists and writings from literary luminaries, Nest was an art piece; each issue was uniquely golden." —Todd Oldham

Published from 1997 to 2004, Nest magazine revolutionized how we look at interior spaces and decoration. Over the course of its 26 issues, the magazine juxtaposed places of classic interior beauty—a John Pawson-designed house in Tunis, or a Gabhan O’Keeffe-decorated maisonette in Paris—with environments such as a heliotropic house in Italy, the home of a cat rescuer in Virginia, and the off-campus rooms of art students at the Rhode Island School of Design, among other unexpected places never before published in glossy shelter magazines.

The original Nest magazine not only won many design awards, but also was elevated to cult status because of its smart, well-researched essays and wildly imaginative layouts and covers. No two issues were ever produced in exactly the same way. There was an always evolving number of novel and experimental design features, including glitter, sanded UV, silver foil, die-cut edges, and drill holes, that pushed the boundaries of the art of magazine design.

The Best of Nest: Celebrating the Extraordinary Interiors from Nest Magazine is the first book to pay tribute to the magazine that revolutionized the way we look at interior space and decoration.

Join the book’s author — beloved bookmaker and cross-category designer Todd Oldham — for a live, virtual conversation with the AIGA’s own Lee-Sean Huang, ahead of the book's November 18 release.

The program will include a live audience Q&A.

About the Speaker: Todd Oldham is a former fashion designer and has produced over 21 books, including bestselling monographs on Alexander Girard and Charley Harper. Oldham’s craft and book series, Kid Made Modern and Hand Made Modern have sold millions of copies. Oldham also works as a photographer and was a frequent contributor to Nest.

This is a pre-release event. Attendee copies of The Best of Nest will ship on the book’s publication date: November 18.

Registration details will be shared with the AIGA for the purpose of providing your access code to join the event.
