When the Swedish chef Magnus Nilsson travelled throughout the Nordic region in prepartion for his 2015 book, The Nordic Cookbook, he not only collected recipes from housewives, café owners, chefs and restaurateurs; he also photographed the landscape and people of this singular region.

Many of those images were published in that earlier volume, yet many more deserved another look. So, this season, we are proud to have published Nilsson's debut photobook, Nordic: A photographic Essay of Landscape, Food and People.

Though Nilsson doesn't describe himself as a photographer he does carry a camera and his pictures do reveal a level of perfectionism and sense of place, that's also apparent in his cookery

"You never know when something amazing is going to happen," he says, "or when a person is going to do something interesting or when the sky is just so beautiful that it hurts."

To see more of those moments, go through these images, above, and buy a copy of Nordic here.
