A feast for fashionistas - featuring everything from an evening mantle with silk embroidery, glass beads and ostrich feathers designed by French couturier Émile Pingat to down-filled, linen sleeve-plumpers - Fashioning Fashion: European Dress in Detail, 1700-1915 currently on show at LACMA (until 27 March) tells the story of European fashion from the Age of Enlightenment through to World War I.

In four sections the exhibition examines the changing silhouettes and colours of male and female dress; how technical innovations affected the cost and design of the final garment; the role of embellishment and how fashion can reflect the events of a time.
