Considered to be one of the most influential video artists of her generation, Pipilotti Rist’s latest work Bremen Lobe of the Lung (2011) reopens the newly modernised exhibition space at the Kunsthalle Bremen Museum in Germany after two years of refurbishment.

Bremen Lobe of the Lung stands alone as the single work presented in Rist's exhibition entitled 'Quiet Through the Walls' which runs from 20 August until 2 October. This work has been specially compiled for the Kunsthalle Bremen Museum and is a freestyle version of the piece Lobe of the Lung, which was produced during the filming of the artist's first feature film Pepperminta in 2009.

Here, in this gallery, we give you a sense of the installation. Images of a young girl walking through a tulip field, hands digging in the mud to find earthworms, and a pig exploring a lush green lawn change unpredictabley from one to the next. The dream-like effect of the sequence is emphasised by the distinctive soundtrack composed by Rist's long-time collaborating partner Andres Guggisberg.

Four videos are projected simultaneously onto three walls of the room, creating a panorama which engulfs the viewer. The audience is encouraged to sit on large sacks of coffee on the floor of the gallery and relax while allowing themselves to be dwarfed by images which change abruptly from slimy and unsettling to sensual and innocent.
