Anyone trying to imagine what a boat designed by Zaha Hadid might look like would probably picture find themselves employing the words ‘dynamic, ‘fluid’ and ‘futuristic’. That, after all, is what we’ve come to expect of her buildings (and also her shoes - this summer’s limited edited pair for United Nude called NOVA, came complete with chrome plating and 16.5cm cantilevered heels).

So the design of six super-yachts, unveiled this month, is well within the Hadid mould. Large and visually impressive, they feature organic-looking latticing and strong profiles. And in the same way that her buildings have shaken up the architecture world, these yachts are like nothing else on the water, or even – we suspect - on anyone else’s drawing board.

It has been left to German yacht maker Blohm+Voss to actually realise the boats. Hadid’s concept is for a vast avant-garde sea cucumber-like ‘mothership’ of 128m, around which a flotilla of five discrete 90m-long yachts will hover. One of these, the Jazz, is ready to go – more or less. It has already been technically specified in detail by the naval architects at B+V. As well as the fluid circulation between decks, afforded by Hadid’s disregard for conventional storeys, it includes that must-have of super-yachts: a swimming pool.
