In The Press
'All in all, Star Culture is hard to fault. The variety of content - from extreme performance artists to leftfield writers - is entertaining and unusual ... In 20 years time, Star Culture will be a reminder that some style magazines in the 1990s were prepared to experiment, straying from the predictable path that seems to suffocate so many of their competitors.' (Design Week)

About the author(s)

Dazed & Confused was born in 1991 as a fanzine poster. The title and concept were a reaction to the 1980s onslaught of style magazines focusing on image and identity in a manic manner. Its editorial policy was to encourage cross fertilization in the realms of art, fashion, film and photography, setting up collaborations and bringing together well-known personalities and to stimulate new ideas. Today its circulation has reached 60,000, and it is widely read in the US and Japan as well as Europe. Original artwork has been contributed by Barbara Kruger, Richard Prince, Damien Hirst, the Chapman brothers and Sam Taylor Wood; key London figures such as Paul Smith and Alexander McQueen have acted as guest editors. The latest projects, which reflect the magazine's wider growth, have included the recent 'Renegade TV Gets Dazed on Channel 4', and an exhibition at Shiseido's art space in Tokyo.

Jefferson Hack is a co-publisher and editor who, through Dazed & Confused magazine and other diverse media, has pioneered new approaches to journalism, film, photography and television. In 1991 Jefferson co-founded Dazed & Confused with the photographer Rankin.
