Hogarth: (1697-1764) is certainly one of the most versatile, innovative and celebrated of all British artists. He lived at a time when Britain was emerging as an increasingly urbanized, commercialized and aggressively imperial power. Like many other artists, he exploited and benefited from these changes in British society. Among his contemporaries, it was Hogarth who commented most brilliantly on society - both positively and negatively. Dalí: This thought-provoking book re-evaluates the work of one of the most notorious, provocative and visually influential artists of the twentieth century. Robert Radford traces Salvador Dali's career from the crucial early years in Spain, to membership of the Surrealist group in 1930s Paris, and then on to New York and Hollywood, where his purposefully extravagant behaviour made him a media star.

Mark Hallett: is a lecturer in Art History at the University of York and the author of The Spectacle of Difference: Graphic Satire in the Age of Hogarth.

Vermeer: Wayne Franits, a specialist in seventeenth-century Dutch and Flemish art, is Professor of Art History at Syracuse University, New York. His numerous publications have explored a variety of topics within the field, ranging from genre painting and portraiture to the work of the Dutch followers of Caravaggio.

Dürer: Jeffrey Chipps Smith holds the Kay Fortson Chair in European Art at the University of Texas at Austin. His books include German Sculpture of the Later Renaissance (1994) and Sensuous Worship: The Jesuits and the Early Catholic Reformation in Germany (2003).

Goya: Sarah Symmons is Senior Lecturer in the Department of Art History and Theory at the University of Essex.

Delacroix: Simon Lee is Associate Professor in the History of Art, University of Reading. He specializes in French and Spanish art of the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries, particularly the work of Jacques-Louis David, Eugène Delacroix and Francisco de Goya.

Turner: Barry Venning is Associate Lecturer in Art History at the Open University. He has written and lectured extensively on Turner, and his articles have appeared in Burlington Magazine, Art History and Turner Studies.

Vincent van Gogh: Judy Sund teaches Art History at Queens College and the Graduate Center, City University of New York. Her publications include True to Temperament: Van Gogh and French Naturalist Literature (1992).

Monet: Carla Rachman lectures on nineteenth-century art at both the University of London and Boston University's London campus.

Dalí: Well known as a lecturer, writer and exhibition curator, Robert Radford taught Art History for many years at Winchester School of Art, University of Southampton.
