'They speak about the shadow side; the underside of the human experience': Roger Ballen
The American-born photographer on the processes behind six of his later images - and his insatiable interest in the 'human condition'
South Africa-based photographer Roger Ballen will be giving two lectures in Italy this weekend as part of his involvement in the eighth annual edition of the Seravezza Fotografia festival in Tuscany (29 January - 3 April 2011).
Taking place on 30 January at the Casa della Creativita in Florence, and the 31 January at the Accademia di Belle Arti in Carrara, the talks will explore Ballen's fascination with the 'inner landscape' - and the apparent chaos of life - through a collection of photographs taken from his key series including Outland, Shadow Chamber, and Boarding House. Highlights from these collections will form the headline exhibition at the Medici palace of Seravezza, Versilia, at this year's festival.
