Jason Atherton, one of the 100 contemporary chefs featured in Coco, Phaidon's guide to the best young chefs working today, recently realized his dream and opened his own restaurant. Located on Pollen Street, London, Atherton intends Pollen Street Social to be a relaxed social dining experience: 'I want people to be able to use the restaurant for anything they want. From a simple glass of wine at the bar, to a full blown gourmet dining experience. This place is going to be your space,' he says.
Having worked for renowned chefs including Coco curators Ferran Adrià and Gordon Ramsay, Atherton's food combines classical influences with cutting edge cuisine. Flexibility is the key ingredient for diners, who can choose from the varied à la carte menu, order a series of taster dishes, sample the tapas menu, or indulge in London’s first ever dessert bar. As Atherton explains: 'Good food should be for the masses, not the elite.'
The interior mixes style and sophistication with a buzzing down-town New York vibe. The main dining room seats 60, while the main focus is the 45-seater bar area where you can graze on tapas or unwind with a cocktail.
