'Innovation is the highest priority' says the Dutch designer of her approach to product designs
Object Rotterdam , which opens today (until 13 February) is an international design fair organised in association with Art Rotterdam, brings together over 20 galleries and institutions from the Netherlands and abroad showcasing unique or limited edition objects in the fields of contemporary design, crafts and jewellery.
'Art and design always went hand in hand but there was not a market place for this. That’s the reason why we started Object Rotterdam next to Art Rotterdam,' explains Fons Hof, Director of both Art Rotterdam and Object Rotterdam. 'Also to show the cutting edge between the two. I want to show the visitors the answers generated by design. These can be both aesthetical and practical answers to the developments in the world. In comparison to the art world, designers have always had a practical attitude towards the world around them. They’re highly educated to come with innovative solutions.'
Participating galleries and artists include: Victor Hunt from Belgium, FAT Galerie from France and, from the Netherlands, Atelier Barbara Broekman, Vivid Gallery, Galerie Marzee, the Sandberg Institute, Zuiderzeemuseum and Thomas Eyck.
