We Want to be Modern - post-thaw Poland and its new-found creativity

We want to be modern, an expansive exhibition dedicated to Poland's thriving creativity during the post-Stalin period (1955-1968), is currently on view at the National Museum in Warsaw.

After the Stalinist-imposed isolation, Polish designers favoured the esthetics of modernism with the most eminent designers adopting the principles of organic form like that of Alvar Aalto and Charles and Ray Eames.

Focusing on some of the most flourishing years in Polish design, the show has been designed by Miska Miller-Lovegrove of Lovegrove Studio, and comprises of around 180 objects including organic-form furniture, abstract print textiles and ceramics, as well as glassware, household objects, periodicals, photographs, and films.

The highly-acclaimed film posters from the era, including artworks of iconic films such Roman Polanski's Knife in the Water and Andrzej Wajda's Ashes and Diamonds, are also on view courtesy of the Wilanow Poster Museum.
