As part of the of the London Festival of Architecture (19 June – 19 September 2010), the site of 100 Union Street, SE1, has been transformed into an urban orchard and community garden. Designed by Heather Ring of the Wayward Plant Registry and built with the help of Bankside Open Spaces Trust and a group of local volunteers, this disused site just south of the river Thames is now a social space for local residents and visitors to the festival to interact. It's a project which benefits the local community and offers visitors a hidden gem off the usual tourist trail.
