Phaidon publishes Questions Without Answers next month. The book focuses on the incredible work by photographers from the VII Photo Agency. So we were very happy to receive news from the agency today that they’d just taken on a new bunch of photographers – 13 in fact. Looking through their immense body of work it’s impossible to pick one above another – such is the high standard. But we were drawn to the work of an Italian photographer called Davide Monteleone and his photographs from Russia. The project is called Dusha which, roughly translated, means Russian Soul.

Monteleone says the series charts the human desire to cling to life in moments of oppression. “Dusha is the title of this endless journey through Russia. It has been a gradual process of discovery, the search for atmosphere, suggestion of a disappearing epoch which somehow quietly but tenaciously still survives. It’s a photographic journey against time, before all this disappears.” We hope you enjoy the gallery.
