An unrivalled pioneer in his field, especially in the use of colour for art photography, Stephen Shore has influenced generations of photographers.

Born in New York City in 1947, he had some of his first work bought by the Musuem of Modern Art, New York, when he was just 14. By the age of 17 he was a regular at Andy Warhol’s Factory, photographing both the artist and his entourage. At the age of 23, Shore became the first living photographer to have a one-man show at the Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York. His work has since been exhibited in numerous museums worldwide.

Shore's iconic photographs documenting his journeys across North America remain some of his most enduring. As a group they also chart the progression of the artist's career.
