Winners of the Brit Insurance Design Awards 2010
The best of the best from the last twelve months
Phaidon went to the Brit Insurance Design Awards Nominees Party and spoke to Deyan Sudjic, director of the Design Museum, about design for the real world beyond the stronghold of the Hoxton ghetto. Terence Conran praised the exhibition for its thrilling collection of affordable and intelligent innovations, while Phaidon’s very own Editorial Director, Emilia Terragni, talked about her decision to nominate the Houdini Armrest Chair by German designer Stefan Diez. Diez had flown in especially for the night, along with Lucas Chirnside who’d made the slightly longer trip from Australia. Stephen Jones, was proudly showing off his OBE and his nominated Hats: An Anthology. Jury members spoke of their shortlisted favourites while chair of the judges Antony Gormley was keen not to give too much away.
