This year's International Contemporary Furniture Fair (ICFF) is more diverse and delightful than ever before, with 590 exhibitors from 40 countries descending on New York's Javits Convention Center this weekend (14-17 May). An opening-night party kicks off the fair's attractions which include a designboom Mart, a bookstore, a bar and a Materials Matter exhibition that showcases next generation design materials.

The ICFF covers everything from furniture, lighting and accessories to textiles and wallpapers. Highlights from this year's fair include exciting young designers featured in Phaidon's & Fork directory of promising designers: Blu Dot, Tom Dixon and Kenneth Cobonpue.

The fair is a fantastic opportunity to showcase new designs both to trade and to the public. Cobonpue will be celebrating a decade of attending the event and is looking forward to exhibiting as he told Phaidon.com: 'This being our 10th year at ICFF, I'm very excited to launch many new designs from our Hive lighting & accessories collection. Checkmate is a series of six individual pendants made from wood pulp in the form of chess playing pieces that you arrange 'strategically' in your space.'

The ICFF is one of the biggest events in the design calendar. The first three days are for trade only and it then opens to the public on 17 May.
