Grace Coddington styles Elle Fanning for Vogue cover

Vogue’s creative director at large teams up with Annie Leibovitz for the June issue - two Phaidon authors!

Grace Coddington makes no secret of her preference for models over celebrities. However, the Phaidon author and creative director at large for US Vogue knows how to channel true star power when she sees it.

Coddington has collaborated with the highly acclaimed American photographer Annie Leibovitz to shoot the teenage movie star Elle Fanning. Fanning’s debut appearance on the cover is timed to promote her new film, The Beguiled, a civil-war drama, set in Mississippi, directed by Sofia Coppola and co-starring Colin Farrell, Nicole Kidman and Kirsten Dunst.

Taking the film’s lead, Coddington and Leibovitz have conjured up a suitably cinematic look, casting Fanning as an Antebellum, Southern Belle, wearing a series of beautiful gowns by Givenchy, Gucci, Dior, Louis Vuitton, Valentino and Alexander McQueen.
