A still from Jenny Holzer's Hillary Clinton films

Jenny Holzer gives us an exclusive look at her new Hillary Clinton Presidential campaign video clip

Jenny Holzer is best known for her Truisms, a series of bold aphorisms which the artist created between 1977 and 1979, and reproduced in numerous media, from t-shirts and street posters, to LED read-outs and black marble benches.

Yet Holzer has, in the years since, also used other writers' texts, including quotes from the poet Hilda Doolittle, redacted CIA documents, and lines by the Iraqi writer Fadhil Al Azzawi. Now, in the run up to the 2016 US presidential election, she has added another source to her list: Hillary Clinton.

Holzer is one of a number of well-known fine artists (including Carrie Mae Weems, Cat Mazza and Cruz Ortiz, among others) who have stepped up to support Hillary by creating original artworks that express some of the campaign's key points and aims.

Holzer has done this by choosing three quotes from Clinton’s past speeches, turning each into a short text animation. These include: “When women participate in peacemaking and peacekeeping we are all safer and more secure”; “To me you cannot be fully human, fully civilized unless you recognize humanity in everyone”; and “I believe that the rights of women and girls is the unfinished business of the 21st century.”

Over the next few weeks, the Clinton campaign will unveil the final piece in this series of original works that capture, according to her campaign managers, what a Hillary Clinton presidency would mean for millions of Americans. The artworks will be displayed online via a new microsite and at campaign events across the country.

You can watch Holzer's "When women participate in peacemaking" work above. You can also see another Holzer video (below), wherein all three quotes from past speeches are cast across the White House as a testament to Clinton's work - and the milestone her presidency would represent for gender equality.
