The Art Book

Do you know a kid who can do better than Mariscal?

If so get them to enter our competition to redesign The Art Book cover and win a Phaidon art library for their school

Here's one for the parents and teachers among our readership. As you're probably aware by now, to celebrate the publication of The Art Book New Edition, we asked legendary Spanish illustrator Javier Mariscal to come up with a cover design that's bright, colourful and instantly recognisable, and we weren't dissapointed. Mariscal's jacket is a wonderful typographic adventure that combines subtle (and not so subtle) references to a wealth of great artists and artistic movements.

We can't think of a better cover design, but we're giving you the chance to prove us wrong. If you know any budding artists between the ages of 11 and 18 who think they can do better, we wan want to hear from them.

They can enter their own version of The Art Book jacket and be in with a chance to win a fantastic Phaidon Art Library for their school, as well as a special copy of The Art Book upon which their winning design will be printed.

Maybe they'd like to feature their favourite artist's work? Or perhaps make a collage filled with some of their most loved paintings, sculptures or photographs? It's entirely up to them. Either way, get them to enter their design into our Facebook competition now (US users click here).
