Jonathan Torgovnik wins National Portrait Gallery Prize

About 2,700 photographers from around the world entered a record 6,900 submissions for the National Portrait Gallery's Photographic Portrait Prize. Jonathan Torgovnik's entry, Joseline Ingabire with her daughter Leah Batamuliza - the portrait of a Rwandan woman who was raped during the 1994 genocide - has won the coveted prize.

Winner also of the 2007 Getty Editorial Photography Grant, Torgovnik will donate a portion of the £12,000 prize (approx. $25,000 USD) to Foundation Rwanda, a charity he created to provide funding for the secondary school education of children born from rape during the genocide.
